Dr Sam Goldsmith (Director)
Sam has over eight years of research and analysis experience, along with considerable expertise in the defence and strategic analysis field, focussing particularly on submarines and surface combatants.
His qualifications include a PhD from RMIT University with a focus on Australian defence industry innovation, a Master of Arts Honours from the ANU Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, a Master of Project Management (ANU) and a Bachelor of Arts Honours (Monash University).
Sam has also been engaged in professional research consulting work, as a direct result of his detailed, open-source publications through the Australian Naval Institute. Sam has also published through the United States Naval War College and the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. Topics of previous publications include: design options for the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) future submarine; alternative surface combatant force structures for the RAN; a new US conventional access strategy to deny China a conventional first-strike capability in the Western Pacific; and the PLA’s anti-ship cruise missile threat to Australian and allied naval operations.
